hiroshiIs science actually so far advanced that is ready for cloning humans? In 2010 the answer was “no”, but thanks to professor Hiroshi Ishiguro science is now able to create clones. Hiroshi is a Japanese “roboticist” and a teacher in the Graduate School of Engineering Science at Osaka University. He has created many robots that look like humans. In fact, one of these is an android version of himself. It’s called the “Geminoid”, from latin “geminus” which means twins. The android is made of silicone rubber, pneumatic actuators and hair from his own scalp. The robot is controlled by Ishiguro who just uses a microphone to capture his voice and gives the robot the possibility to reproduce Ishiguro’s intonations. The scientist also uses a camera that allows the android to follow his movements. One day robots could help people: for example they could care for the elderly or teach classes. So this android has been a big goal of science and it could help people too much in their lives. The downside is that it could be also a bit dangerous because it could be heading to tragedy.
