Global Citizen Live,a 24-hour global event, took place  on September 25 to unite the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty. This foundraising show  is part of  the Global Citizen Festival , one of the main outreach events and initiatives for Global Citizen, an organization founded in 2008, with a goal of ending extreme poverty in the world by the year 2030.   It is also  part of global campaign, a “Recovery Plan for the World”. The Recovery Plan focuses on five key objectives: ending COVID-19 for all, ending the hunger crisis, resuming learning for all, protecting the planet, and advancing equity for all.

 

The novelty of this event took place across six continents and was also  a live streaming transmission through YouTube: this allowed  to reach a huge audience including especially very young people.If the main goal is  to raise awareness among young people, what better than  involve music. Music has always been the soundtrack of the change that sees the mobilization of many young people, be it the battles for the environment or those of Black Lives Matter.

 

The broadcast  featured artists, celebrities and world leaders from 6 continents, coming together to create a change and impact climate and poverty. The set of the first stop on a 24 hour tour events was Paris, France. The ceremony started off on a ring glowing bright red and a backdrop of the iconic Eiffel Tower and with welcome from actress and activist Priyanka Chopra Jonas and French journalist Denis Brogniart for a masked audience.

Celebrities appeared for the cause including Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Doja Cat, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Meek Mill, H.E.R., Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, BTS, Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Demi Lovato, and more. Special guests also included Alessia Cara, Burna Boy, Cyndi Lauper, Jon Batiste, and Lang Lang.

 

Maneskin also put their rock at the service of the planet for Global Citizen Live, the biggest concert in the world. The Italian band, winner of the Sanremo Festival and Eurovision 2021, performed for twenty minutes in Paris.

“Throughout this pandemic we have seen what we can achieve when the world works together”, said the activist Jonas. We must be united against common enemies.
