The platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is a very special occasion for celebration for millions of Britons (though not all) and for millions of other people in  more than fifty nations that make up the Commonwealth. in the seventy years of her reign, Elizabeth II has been a phlegmatic figure, just like the unalterable characteristic of a country that, however, has gone through turbulent times: from the throne of Buckingham Palace, her majesty has seen fourteen Prime ministers pass (for the moment) at 10 Downing Street, and has witnessed the bloodiest episodes of the Irish war conflict of the north, the fall of the Berlin wall, various economic crises or the entry and dramatic exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union. All this while maintaining a high popularity among the majority of citizens, despite the numerous scandals that have tarnished the reputation of the british royal family.

However, Queen’s jubilee  is also an excellent opportunity to reflect on the nature of power and its various forms of manifestation.

It recalls that the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne was in February, but the festivities, including parades, receptions, concerts and popular lunches, take place in June due to the most British motif we can imagine: the weather.

To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year all over the world. The most important event is a United Kingdom four day Bank Holiday weekend from 2nd to 5th June.

The Queen’s Birthday Parade with more than 1200 officiers and soldiers together with hundreds of Army musicians and around 240 horses will pass by the city.

The Platinum Jubilee Beacons: Over 1500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories. Service of Thanksgiving: A Service of Thanksgiving for The Queen’s reign will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral.

The Derby at Epsom Downs: Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will attend the Derby at Epsom Downs.

The Platinum Party at the Palace: The celebration will see famous faces from the world of entertainment brought together to perform for a night of musical tributes to celebrate the Jubilee.

On Sunday 5th June, when there will be The Big Jubilee Lunch, the longest street party to back garden with barbecue and everything. Over ten million people across the UK are expected to be joining the celebrations to share friendship, food and fun at Above all, The Gold State Carriage, led by The Sovereign’s Escort, will lead the Platinum Jubilee Pageant

The Pageant will serve as an opportunity to gather and pay tribute to Her Majesty. It will culminate with the singing of the National Anthem, ‘God Save the Queen’ and a gospel choir to the sounds of the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. The Pageant will bring to life iconic moments from The Queen’s reign as well as showcasing our changing society over the past 70 years. I wish I were there……
